Bringing Birmingham together

Xcelerate with Edgbaston will not only provide apprenticeships, career development and skills training across the Compass Group network, but will also extend its impact to the wider hospitality industry and local communities.

Working in collaboration with the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), our programmes are designed to create meaningful opportunities for people across Birmingham — helping individuals build skills, gain valuable workplace experience and access routes into employment.

Together, these initiatives form part of our Social Mobility Strategy, helping people Get In to the Compass family and build brighter futures through sustainable careers in hospitality.

Programmes under our WMCA collaboration

Youth employment support

Through the Government’s Youth Guarantee initiative, we support young people who are not in education, employment or training by providing up to 25 hours of workplace experience over a six-month period. This helps young people build confidence, develop employability skills and gain valuable exposure to the hospitality sector.

Jobs Grant

As part of our commitment to social mobility, we are embracing the Government’s Jobs Grant initiative to support young people into employment, who are not in education, employment or training, and who have been unemployed for six months or more. By connecting individuals with workplace opportunities, practical support and routes into hospitality careers, we are helping to remove barriers and create pathways into meaningful work.

 Junior Chef Academy

Our 10-week Junior Chef Academy gives hands-on experience and mentorship to young people, helping to nurture the next generation of chefs and strengthen the future of the culinary industry.

Sector work based programmes

Through sector work based programmes, we support people from local communities into employment by helping them build industry skills, gain practical experience and access opportunities within hospitality. These programmes are designed to create clear pathways into work while supporting local talent and community growth.

Education and community partners

Through strategic partnerships with education and community organisations, we provide adults and young people with practical experience, industry insight and the skills needed to succeed in the dynamic world of culinary arts and hospitality.
